<pre>Dear All

Koroneiko olives have been consistently recognised as producing high quality
olive oil. Oil from Sitia Crete has one awards in Solinas Competitions. In Crete
the oil is generally a stand alone product and not blended with other olive
oils.

The addition of Barnea a fairly light bland oil will dilute the flavour of
koroneiki so I am not surprised that it is winning competitions. I have planted
20 trees myself out of 100 trees that I have planted on mt 10acre property in
Chittering WA. Of course I will hand pick these - so I should thet are worth
their weight in gold.

Regarding large scale commercial oils with Koroneiki - Until the industry gets
into full production - why not have an international blend oil - say imported
Koroneiki + Local (Picual + Leccino + Barnea) - food for thought. This overcomes
the problem of what is Australian.

<pre>g'day stan

I think that the problem of blending local oils with imported is not one
of parochialism but of purity. The "food scandal of the 20th century"
where olive oil was subs with veg oils esp hazelnut has not been
satisfactorily laid to rest. This topic of adulteration/substituition
has been recently identified in papers from the American Olive Oil Assoc
'Wiley Award Address' by David Firestone from the US FDA in which he
outlines the process of detection of both adulteration and substitution
in olive oil. Obviously from this document the issue is historical,
international and recurrent and will require considerable further
ongoing commitment by all concerned to resolve.

Without being overly presumptious I would hope that all olive growers
and producers in all countries would wish to be given the chance to
produce a product of a demonstratable high quality and not feel that all
their resources are to be compromised by the expediency of a few.

It is my wish that this debate will encourage others to have faith in
their work and to push harder for a better future.

Re: olive oil

Hello "Billy".

We are always interested in the unusual. You can visit our website
http://www.evoliveoil.com click on "Olive Oil Resources", then in the first
sentence of the page that opens up click on the words, THE WELL, and you
will be taken inside where you can see the different cultivars and regions
that we carry if you click on Extra Virgin Olive Oil on the right side of
the page. If you have oil and it is from a single or more than one variety
of olive that you can specify we are interested in talking with you. Do you
keep your harvest dates seperate or do you mix the early, mid, and late oils
together? Always interested in tasting new oils.
